The Barak Beacon estate is set to be demolished, due to the Victorian state government’s Big Housing Build, and all tenants have been told to relocate in the next year. Most tenants are incredibly vulnerable and relocation will mean displacement, having huge impacts on these people’s lives.

 

As the state government moves to turn public housing into privately managed community housing, tenants are left not knowing if their housing situation will remain stable. Community housing involves higher rent and cherry-picking of residents, which could mean that those who need it the most may be left out.

The Barak Beacon residents demand transparency and answers over the future of their homes and community.
