JUSTICE FOR CABELA: Maximum punishment for men who shot an innocent dog and tied her down to railroad tracks

JUSTICE FOR CABELA: Maximum punishment for men who shot an innocent dog and tied her down to railroad tracks
The Issue
Florida Statute 828.12 et seq.
Intentional Animal Cruelty is defined as: “commits an act to any animal which results in the cruel death, or excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering.” This is a 3rd Degree Felony with a fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 5 years. Intentional Cruelty with “knowing and intentional torture or torment of an animal that injures, mutilates, or kills the animal” carries a minimum fine of $2500 and completion of a psychological or anger management treatment program. A second conviction of the same carries a minimum fine of $5,000 and minimum 6 months incarceration, with no parole or early release available.

On March 5, 2015, a beautiful young dog named Cabela was shot, tied to train tracks and left to die in Tampa Bay, Florida. She had originally been purchased by her owners with the intent to participate in an illegal dog-fighting ring. However, Cabela's sweet disposition kept her from wanting anything to do with hurting other dogs.
"When Cabela wouldn't fight, they decided to get rid of her," the police department said in a statement. "The two suspects, along with others went to the railroad tracks. [They] threw the dog into the woods and Hollinger fired at the dog. The dog ran back home, sat injured on the front porch. They caught her and brought her back to the tracks, tied her to the tracks and shot her several times." Cabela's horrific torture was caught on surveillance video, which led police to identify and apprehend her abusers.
According to police, two of Cabela's abusers have been charged with aggravated animal cruelty. They also face trespassing charges for being on CSX railroad property. But just an FYI, none of these men are strangers to the law. Below are their PREVIOUS arrest records--
- Kenny Bell: Attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana
- Natwan Callaway: Burglary, robbery, grand theft and felon in possession of a firearm
- Darnell Devlin: Possession of marijuana, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at or within a building
By signing this petition, we urge the district attorney to ensure that ALL suspects receive the maximum punishment for the sadistic torture and attempted murder of Cabela. Natwan Callaway, Bobby Hollinger, Darnell Devlin and Kenny Bell should each receive the maximum incarceration of 5 years, plus a $10,000 fine each. Alicia Young, whose home in which Cabela and other abused dogs resided, should also receive the maximum imprisonment of 5 years and a $10,000 fine.
