Mumbai to get CBTC signalling system. Targets a train every 150 secs!
The Western Railways and South Western Railways are a study in contrast! One manages Mumbai one of the busiest cities with a suburban rail system that is relied on by almost 70% of its population. The other sits on a 100 year old rail network, that lies idle most of the day. One is trying to run trains at one train in less than 3 mins, while the other struggles to run 1 train in 3 hours! If there is a railways network stuck in the Stone Ages, it is Bengaluru.
Why is this IT City, Silicon Valley of India, unable to run a modern rail system?
- Bengaluru still doesn't have Automatic Signalling, on all lines.
- Bengaluru still doesn't have electrification on all lines.
And this is why we are unable to run regular local trains on existing infrastructure!
Shouldn't Bengaluru be adopting automatic signalling, and not only that, should't we leapfrog and gets the latest? Why isn't it getting CBTC? Or even better? Shouldn't all lines have been electrified?
Bengaluru truly lives in the Dark Ages when it comes to Railways! It's like both our MPs and MLAs have not bothered about it, sparing a few!
Please share widely, and get more and more people to join this demand for modernising and starting of Local Train services in Bengaluru!
