The Issue

Young women at our school deserve the opportunity to benefit from the camaraderie, discipline, and fitness that team sports provide. More importantly, they deserve the chance to be seen, supported, and celebrated in the same way the boys' teams are. A girls flag football team would provide these opportunities and foster a sense of inclusion that our community prides itself on promoting.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, participation in girls flag football has increased by over 50% in the past four years. This trend is reflected in successful programs across Los Angeles county, where girls are excelling both on and off the field. These programs have shown improved academic performance among female athletes, increased college scholarship opportunities, and a reduction in the dropout rate

It's time for Granada Hills Charter High School to join its peers in providing equal athletic opportunities for all students. We call upon the school administration, especially our Superintendent, to listen to the voices of the students and the community who support this initiative. Let's give the girls of Granada Hills Charter High School the team they have been eagerly anticipating and deserve.

Sign this petition to help us make this change.  We can bring girls flag football to GHCHS and support gender equality in high school sports.
