It was announced this week that there will be a significant cut in the number of co-op staff. 

Co-ops and self-ops have each lost between 2 and 5 staff members, in some instances cutting the number of student staff by 50% while for many houses keeping the same number of residents and responsibilities.

This is an immense change from previous years. So, why was this decided? Under the new rule, upper-class residences will have a 1:15 staff/student ratio with co-ops getting an additional 3. However, co-ops still require more resources as the staff is responsible for clearly more work than normal houses. This new rule is unfair not only because students were not explicitly notified of this when they applied to staff, but also because next year is already going to be difficult and the shortage of staff will be a bottleneck to rebuilding the communities that Stanford co-ops and row houses have traditionally sustained.
