Standing Together for Respect and Inclusion at Kona Kai Club
The Issue
To All Fellow Members of Kona Kai Club,
Kona Kai is more than a club. It is a community built on friendship, mutual respect, and a shared sense of belonging. These values bring us together, regardless of our backgrounds, and deserve to be protected.
At our recent Annual General Meeting, a member made deeply offensive remarks about the racial identity of fellow members, stating that Board members “all look alike” and repeatedly referring to them as “you people.” When challenged by other members, the individual refused to retract these remarks.
We believe that disagreements about club governance are healthy and welcome. Racial prejudice and personal attacks are not.
What defines our community is not simply how we celebrate together, but how we stand up for one another when our shared values are challenged.
We therefore invite fellow members to join us in:
1. Condemning racial discrimination in all its forms and standing in solidarity with those affected.
2. Asking club leadership to take appropriate action and reaffirm our commitment to a respectful, inclusive community.
This is not about division or confrontation. It is about coming together to uphold the values that make Kona Kai special.
Our differences enrich our community. Our respect for one another unites us.
Let us stand together to ensure that every member feels welcomed, valued, and proud to belong.
With respect and solidarity,
Concerned Members of Kona Kai Club
