The absence of any resources or means to provide necessary care led me down a path lined with loss and grief. Like many, my pets are not just animals – they are an extension of my family.

It is a fact that veterinary care prices are too steep for an average American household. According to the American Pet Products Association 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey, dog owners spent an average of $474 and cat owners spent $349 on surgical visits. Also, nearly 12 percent of the owners surveyed said that cost was a factor in their vet selection, and some have even admitted to skipping a recommended procedure because of the price (source : The Balance).

This brings us to the crux of the matter: the need for consistent pricing in veterinary services and the facilitation of payment schemes, nationwide. By standardizing vet charges, we can make sure that no pet owner has to choose between their wallet and their pet’s life. Furthermore, implementing payment opportunities will ensure that more pets receive the health care they need, regardless of their owner’s financial situation.
