In an effort to improve quality of life after ECT, a team of ECT recipients (American, British, and Irish) partnered with psychologist, Professor John Read of the University of East London to develop the first international survey for ECT recipients, their family members, caregivers, and friends.

The study is approved by the University of East London Ethics and Integrity Sub-committee. It is also endorsed by UK’s Mind Charity, the UK equivalent of leading US organizations who educate and advocate for people with Mental Illness and their family members (See attached).

ELECTROCONVULSIVE THERAPY (ECT) RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR INTERNATIONAL ONLINE SURVEY

If you (18 years or older), a family member, or friend ever had ECT (aka “shock therapy”), you are invited to take part in an anonymous online survey opportunity to share your treatment experiences (positive, negative or mixed). The survey takes about 30-40 minutes. If you do not know the answer to a question, it is okay to skip it. The most important thing is to share your experience/perspective to help understand ECT’s impact.

If questions about ECT or about the experiences that led to having ECT are distressing for you, please seriously consider not taking the survey.

If you have any general enquires about the study, please contact the lead researcher, Professor John Read: john@uel.ac.uk. The study is approved by the University of East London Ethics and Integrity Sub-committee.

Please download the ECT survey flyer to post at your local mental health clinics
