I received results from my 3T MRI SWI or SWAN sequencing. (See my three minute video reaction here: Is ECT Safe)
The animal and human ECT neuropathology studies of the 40s and 50s have black and white photos of what electricity's rapid increase in thermal temperature does to blood vessels, "vascular architecture," grey matter, white matter and nerves. Rapid thermal changes cause micro changes cerebrovascular formations causing cerebrovascular malformations (CVMs). Some CVM change the formation of blood vessels known as arterio-venous malformations (AVMs).
Over time, the risk of both CVMs and AVMs weakening and becoming lesions increases. There are different types of brain lesions. One kind of lesion can occur in capillaries which may not ever fully heal. This causes what is referred to as thermal-induced telangiectasia also known as a chronic micro bleed (CMB).
Symptoms of CMB will vary depending on the location of the CMB and the amount of blood loss. One thing that is consistent in every person while the bleed is active will be a headache. This headache will wax and wane depending on blood flow. The symptoms caused by blood flow will resolve when the chronic bleed stops.
My 3TMRI SWI confirmed electricity created AVMs in my brain which over time broke into thermal-induced telangiectasia. According to the American Psychiatric Association, focus of electrical charge is typically the brain stem because they put an electrode on either side of your head (bilateral) and the current meets in the brain stem. I will likely need another scan to detect whether I have addition AVMs which could potentially burst as I age. This is why the symptoms I currently experience were not seen immediately during or after treatment.
At this time, I have one chronic micro-bleed located in the lining of the pons area of the brain stem (Central Pontine Parenchyma). Bleeding impacts my breathing, balance, coordination, swallowing, speech, sleep, sensory processing, taste, and balance. Pons also control relaying information from your brain through the rest of your body and your body to your brain.
I never had other incidents that could cause AVMs developing into telangiectasia in my early 40's. I am not genetically predisposed to getting telangiectasias.
My telangiectasias are consistent with thermal induced AVMs documented in the animal and human autopsies of those who underwent bilateral ECT.
P.S. Yes, my voice changes. It likely has everything to do with the rate of the micro bleeding. At this point we've discovered that it depends upon small spikes in blood pressure (I have chronic low blood pressure), sensory overload, sleep/fatigue, rapid drops in barometric pressure/storms, stress, and environmental exposures. Today the stars aligned. I recorded this video just before leaving my house on stress-free day, having not done much by way of sensory stimulation, with good weather--so my speech is pretty clear. #RegulateECT #AuditECT #MedicalDevice #neuroscience #telangiectasia
