Stand with The First Company Governor’s Foot Guard!

Stand with The First Company Governor’s Foot Guard!
The Issue
The First Company Governor’s Foot Guard was chartered in 1771, and is the Nation’s oldest, continuously serving Military Unit.
Raised bill 6440 has now been introduced into the 2025 Legislative Session. If this bill passes, the First Company Governor’s Foot Guard will no longer be housed under the Connecticut Military Department and therefore will no longer have any help or assistance from the State of Connecticut. It will require the First Company to stand on its own as a Unit and become self-sufficient without support. While the future of the First Company may be at a crossroads, we will always support the Connecticut Military Department and the citizens of the State of Connecticut.
The roots of the First Company run deep. From joining the Patriot Army at Saratoga as an advance guard of reinforcements to providing an escort and security to the Comte de Rochambeau and General George Washington as the two leaders planned the campaign that would ultimately lead to an American victory.
We have been responsible for the escort of State Governors, United States Presidents, and other worldly dignitaries. We have served our communities with clothing drives and other needed support and humanitarian efforts. We have been called out for assistance in flood duties, hurricane duties, and most recently, setting up life saving mobile field hospitals, with the onset of COVID-19.
Members of the First Company have offered their services to their country in every war in which the United States has participated since and including the Revolutionary War. We are men, women, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, veterans, blue collar workers, white collar workers. We are First Foot.
As the goal of this petition is not to fight this bill or the passing of this new legislation, it is to bring awareness and the name of the First Company Governor’s Foot Guard to the forefront of discussions and encourage individual’s curiosity to explore our history.
We ask you to stand with us and help ensure that our name, the First Company Governor’s Foot Guard, and all of our contributions to the State of Connecticut and the United States, be remembered and never forgotten.
