This summer, 27 young girls lost their lives in a catastrophic flood at Camp Mystic in Texas. Their parents are now fighting to make sure no other family endures the same heartbreak.

Thanks to their courage and advocacy, the Texas Legislature has passed the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act—a set of vital new safety standards for youth camps, including stricter emergency plans, floodplain restrictions, and staff training.

But laws are only as strong as their enforcement.

We call on Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of State Health Services, and all relevant agencies to:

• Fully and quickly enforce the new camp safety regulations
• Ensure no licensed youth camp operates with cabins in flood-prone areas
• Hold camps accountable for safety planning and emergency preparedness.
  
  This legislation was born of unimaginable grief—but its promise is real. It can save lives.

Let’s honor the memory of Virginia, Abby, Cile, Molly, Lila, Mary, Hadley—and all 27 lives lost—by making sure Texas camps are truly safe.
