Stand With Our Boys. Keep Baltimore Collegiate Open!
The Issue
Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys
Community Affirmation & Petition to Keep BCSB Open
I affirm my unwavering support for Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys (BCSB) and stand with the students, families, and educators who depend on its life-changing mission.
I believe that BCSB is a vital institution in Baltimore City—the only public charter school that provides Black boys in grades 4–8 with a structured, high-expectations environment tailored specifically to how they learn, grow, and thrive.
I acknowledge that:
BCSB students demonstrate consistent academic growth in ELA and Math each year, even if the district’s rubric does not fully capture their progress.
BCSB alumni graduate from high school at a rate of 90%, far surpassing the citywide average for Black boys.
The school’s single-sex model, mentoring culture, and leadership-centered curriculum offer benefits that many traditional schools are not designed to provide.
The Baltimore City Board of Education has applied some policies inconsistently, creating barriers that have unfairly impacted BCSB’s standing and success.
Closing this school would cause deep and lasting harm to hundreds of boys who rely on its stability, structure, and culturally grounded support.
BCSB’s existence stands as a commitment—a declaration—that Black boys matter in Baltimore.
And if the only institution of its kind in the city were to close, what does that say about Baltimore’s commitment to Black boys?
What message would we be sending about their value, their potential, and their place in the future of this city?
I believe that BCSB deserves equitable treatment, a fair renewal process, and the opportunity to continue providing high-quality education to the young men of Baltimore.
I affirm that closing BCSB is not in the best interest of students, families, or our community.
I stand with the school’s mission to cultivate young men of character, integrity, discipline, and academic excellence.
By signing my name below, I join the collective voice demanding that Baltimore City Public Schools:
Keep Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys open! Honor its progress.
Apply policy fairly.
Stand with our boys.
