Stand with Afghan Women and Girls. "Demand International Action to Protect Their Rights."
The Issue
Millions of women and girls in Afghanistan are facing a humanitarian crisis and a severe violation of their human rights under the Taliban regime. Since the Taliban took power in August 2021, they have banned girls from going to high school, restricted women from working outside the home, eliminated the Ministry of Women's Affairs, and imposed harsh rules on women's dress and mobility. Women and girls are living in fear of violence, abuse, and exploitation, and are losing their access to education, health care, and economic opportunities.

The situation of women and girls in Afghanistan is not only a tragedy for them, but also a threat to the stability and security of the region and the world. If women and girls are denied their rights and dignity, they cannot contribute to the development and peace of their country. If women and girls are silenced and marginalized, they cannot raise their voices against extremism and terrorism. If women and girls are abandoned and isolated, they cannot benefit from the solidarity and support of the international community.

We cannot stand by and watch as women and girls in Afghanistan suffer and lose everything they have fought for over the past 20 years. We cannot let the Taliban erase the progress and achievements of Afghan women and girls, and reverse the commitments and obligations of the international community to uphold their rights. We must act now to demand that the Taliban respect and protect the rights of women and girls, and that the international community take urgent and effective measures to support and assist them.
