Feb. 29, 2020 TSS TV discuss the problem of the current custody system in Japan, introducing a father Emura Kouichi(46) who visit once a month the grave of his daughter Hiroyo who suicide at age 16, 6 years ago.
"If we had joint custody, her life would have been saved".
The father lost custody of his daughter upon divorce and could only meet her once a month. As his daughter became junior high, her relationship with her mother tarnished and with the advise of Child Guidance Center (CGC), the daughter was sent to an CGC.
The father tried to gain back the custody of his daughter, but once the custody was lost, it was not possible to get it back.
SOS was sent by his daughter, but the information was not released to her father as he had no custody.
" Yamaguchi Prefecture, which has jurisdiction over the Child Guidance Center, was also requested to disclose information, but it was rejected because there was no "inheritance right" for Ms. Hiroyo's personal information, and the document that was barely released is important. The part was painted black. After being worried, Mr. Emura filed a lawsuit with the Hiroshima District Court in March of this year seeking investigation of the cause."
"Discussions are still needed, but in order not to repeat the tragedy of Mr. Emura and Ms. Hiroyo, I think it is necessary to return to the perspective of children and review the system".
