Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) sits on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. That's him in the video, describing his deeply held personal beliefs that evolution, embryology, and big bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell", and that the Earth is 9,000 years old.

At a time when science and technology play ever more important roles in our lives, we should require our elected representatives to understand and accept basic scientific principles like evolution and contential drift, none of which are controversial among scientists.

Broun's entitled to his personal views, as we all are, but his stated goal of using scripture to guide his policymaking calls into question his ability to perform his duties in a rational, coherent, and effective manner. He should be censured and removed from his post on the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
