Don't rip out the laws that protect our Reef

Don't rip out the laws that protect our Reef
The issue
Right now the government wants to rip out the laws that protect our Great Barrier Reef to pave the way for big polluters.
At the same time, Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt has just approved what will be one of the world's biggest coal mines – the Carmichael coal mine.
If it goes ahead, the Carmichael coal mine will add billions of tonnes pollution to climate change and irreversibly damage the Reef.
Two Bills are in the hands of the Senate that would make it even easier for governments to wave through big polluting projects.
It’s just a small handful of politicians – fuelled by greedy coal lobby groups – who are trying to strip away environmental protection so they can mine more, frack faster and dredge deeper with little oversight.
If it wasn’t for these environment laws and communities speaking out, places like the Franklin River, the Great Barrier Reef and Kakadu would be lost to the exploits of big polluters.
We all share a responsibility to live in a way that embraces life – that protects our air, water, rivers, forests, oceans and wildlife. And our laws should reflect that.
The future of our Reef is in our hands. With 50,000 we can send a strong message to Senators to listen to people, not polluters.
Will you sign on?
