Support Lauren P. Raysor’s Request to the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, for a Federal Election Monitor!

We, the undersigned residents, voters, and advocates for fair elections, stand with civil rights attorney Lauren P. Raysor in demanding immediate federal oversight of Mount Vernon’s June 24, 2025, municipal election.

This election—deciding key positions including City Council, City Court Judge, and City Comptroller—has been tainted by widespread reports of voter suppression, political corruption, misuse of taxpayer funds, and coordinated election interference.

Without federal monitors, Mount Vernon voters cannot be confident that this election will be conducted freely, fairly, or legally.

We Are Alarmed by the Following:

• Untraceable Political Spending: An “independent” group, Rise Up Mount Vernon, is promoting a full slate of pro-Mayor candidates—funded by a developer with millions at stake in city projects.
• Misuse of Public Resources: City employees, offices, and funds have allegedly been used to campaign, violating Mount Vernon Code §24-4.
• Conflicts of Interest: The Mayor is actively campaigning while using her official role to host forums and certify petitions for handpicked candidates.
• Fraudulent Materials: Flyers labeled “Official Sample Ballots” were distributed by local churches and political surrogates—intentionally omitting opposition candidates to mislead voters.
• Illegal Religious Endorsements: 501(c)(3) religious organizations reportedly endorsed candidates—violating IRS and NY nonprofit laws.
• Election Security and Intimidation: Report voter intimidation, defamation campaigns, and sabotage of campaign signs.

We Demand:

• That the U.S. Department of Justice immediately assign federal election monitors to Mount Vernon to oversee all aspects of the election—from ballot handling to polling site activity.
• That the NY Attorney General and State Comptroller open formal investigations into the alleged misuse of taxpayer funds by elected officials.
• That all campaign activity by nonprofits be investigated and, if appropriate, referred to the IRS for violations of federal tax law.

This is not politics as usual—this is an inside job to rig an election. Only federal intervention can restore public trust and ensure Mount Vernon’s democracy is not stolen.
