Stand Up for Justice: Fight Against Wrongful Convictions in Philadelphia

Stand Up for Justice: Fight Against Wrongful Convictions in Philadelphia
The Issue
Petition for Justice and Accountability
Petition Creator: Gary Drummond Age 34
Current Place of Incarceration: SCI Dallas State Prison, Pennsylvania
Statement of Purpose:
I, Gary Drummond, am a wrongfully convicted individual currently serving a sentence of 20-40 years for Conspiracy to Commit First-degree Murder. I have been incarcerated for 13 years due to a grave miscarriage of justice that took place during my arrest and interrogation in July 2010, which involved misconduct by Detective Philip Nordo.
On the aforementioned date, I was pulled over by undercover police officers and arrested on drug charges. Subsequently, I was taken to the 18th Police District and then to the Homicide Unit at 8th & Race St for questioning regarding a homicide that I had no knowledge or involvement in. Detective Phillip Nordo subjected me to hours of relentless interrogation, coercion, and inappropriate advances, including sexual favors, offering me money, and making threats when I refused. In 2022 the now former Detective Philip Nordo, of the Philadelphia homicide unit with a two-decade career in the department, was sentenced to 24.5 to 49 years in prison on charges that included rape, sexual assault, stalking, official oppression, theft by deception, and related crimes. Nordo's actions compromised numerous cases and led to more than a dozen people who were investigated by Nordo to have their convictions overturned.
Three of 13 lawsuits involving Nordo have been settled, according to the city law departments and many of the cases involved homicides. In my case, Detective Phillip Nordo wrote a witness's statement and had her sign it without allowing her to review it. Similarly, Nordo secured a statement from another witness in my case who claimed to be with me on the night of the homicide after being promised new housing and $20,000. However, that witness's sister provided an affidavit confirming he was with her the night of the homicide. Moreover, the car supposedly used in the homicide had been sold through Craigslist four days before the homicide and the person who bought the car confirmed the purchase date in a 2010 statement where he also denied knowing me, as everything was handled through Craigslist. This buyer later told my family that Nordo tried to make him sign a false statement, which he refused. He has provided affidavits describing Nordo's harassment and sexual assault. This discrepancy shows that Detective Nordo coerced witnesses in my case into making false statements.
Demands:
1. I demand a thorough investigation into the conduct of Detective Phillip Nordo and all individuals involved in my arrest and interrogation to uncover any misconduct, coercion, or abuse of power that occurred during the course of my case.
2. I demand a review of the evidence and circumstances leading to my wrongful conviction, with the goal of overturning my conviction and securing my immediate release from incarceration!
3.I demand a comprehensive review of all cases handled by Detective Philip Nordo during his tenure with the Philadelphia Police Department to ensure that justice was served and that no other individuals were wrongfully convicted or harmed due to his misconduct.
4.I call for accountability within law enforcement agencies to prevent similar abuses of power and violations of civil liberties in the future. The oversight and ethical conduct of law enforcement officers must be upheld to protect the rights of all individuals. Detective Philip Nordo has taken so much away from me. As fast as I was convicted, releasing me needs to happen just as fast! I call for justice, accountability, and reform within the criminal justice system to prevent similar injustices from occurring in the future and to ensure that all individuals are treated fairly and with respect under the law. I read that the complaints about Nordo began back in 2005 and instead of being investigated he was promoted! It starts within, how can the people that’s supposed to protect and serve be the same individuals committing such Hanoi’s acts. We urge the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office and relevant authorities to take proactive measures to address any systemic failures that allowed Detective Nordo's misconduct to go unchecked for years, leading to irreparable harm and miscarriages of justice.
Conclusion:
I am innocent and a victim of Detective Nordo's corruption, as he coerced witnesses into lying. Please help me to get justice. I urge all individuals who believe in justice, fairness, and the protection of civil liberties to support this petition and stand with me in seeking truth, accountability, and exoneration. Together, we can work towards a more just and equitable society for all.
Thank you for your support & please Share my story with others!
I have also attached affidavits from witnesses proving my innocence.
