Stand Up for Jennifer Lopez & LGBT Families
Support for the LGBT community has increased over the years as seen in recent national polls. A 2011 Gallup poll showed that 53% of Americans support marriage equality, and data continues to reflect the American public wants to ensure that all families in America are treated with respect.
One Million Moms is a project of the antigay American Family Association, classified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group or spreading damaging misinformation about LGBT people.

Jennifer Lopez, is an American actress, businesswoman, dancer and recording artist. She started her career as a Fly Girl on the television program In Living Color and as a back-up dancer for Janet Jackson. Lopez gained recognition in the action-thriller Money Train (1995). Her first leading role was in the biographical film Selena (1997), which was her breakthrough role, earning her an ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress and Golden Globe nomination. She also starred in the box office hit Anaconda (1997) and earned her second ALMA Award for her performance in Out of Sight (1998), which made her the highest-paid Latin actress.
The American Family Association – an organization that the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated as a “hate group” -- is spreading anti-gay attitudes and bias by asking its supporters to contact ABC Network and tell the company to cancel Ms. Lopez's TV pilot about a lesbian family because their hateful beliefs.
This is the same group that demanded JC Penny fire Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson!
In a statement, One Million Moms said: “Obviously, ABC has lost their minds. They haven’t let up so neither will we. ABC’s Family Channel has several anti-family programs, and they are planning on adding to that growing list. ABC Family has approved a series pilot from Jennifer Lopez’s production company, Nuyorican, about a lesbian couple and their diverse family.“Many families have already discovered that ABC Family Channel is anything but family-friendly. But because of family being part of the network’s name, we thought a warning should still be sent out for anyone who continues to watch the channel. A premiere date has not been set, but One Million Moms wanted to sound the alarm about this new series. It will be airing on the network soon unless we do something about it. They are in the beginning stages.”

What to say:
Hi, my name is ____________ and I'm standing with Jennifer Lopez to thank you for green-lighting the show about a lesbian couple representing diverse families by Ms. Lopez's production company Nuyorican. I hope you continue to support and demonstrate with your programs that all families matter. I stand with Jennifer Lopez and think that ABC Television made the right choice.
*You can send a "postcard" to ABC with a picture of your family or a LGBT equality photo via "goPostal or Postgram" via the web or iPhone app. (Mailing fees may apply)
As you may know, President Obama recently came out for marriage equality and the increasing viewership of shows like Modern Family on your network demonstrate that a majority of the country feels that gay and lesbian people should be allowed to take care for the people they love, in marriage & create families. And despite the false claims of OneMillionMoms.com, which is a project of the American Family Association, I, along with my friends and family members, support companies that embrace all their customers.
Thank you for taking a stand and for not backing down to pressure from hate groups. They do not speak for me or my community.
