The Issue
We, the undersigned are respectfully requesting that the Ironman Group revisit and revise the qualifying procedures for the 2026 Ironman Triathlon World Championship based on the following:
The current Performance Pool structure results in slots being disproportionately earned by men and under-earned by women. The result, if not changed, is going to be a World Championship in 2026 that has a completely lopsided representation of genders.
Case in Point: at Ironman California only one female athlete outside of the female age group winners qualified for Kona vs 32 men outside of male age group winners.
The assumption that men and women will perform in equally tight clusters is the crux of this inequality. But clearly this is not the case. The idea was brilliant on paper, but we all see now that unless a male and a female Performance Pool are created, that female representation at the World Championships will be at an all-time low.
In light of this we hope you will consider rethinking the qualification procedure to ensure a more balanced representation at the World Championships. We all want the best in the world at the start line. We also want it to reflect fields that are deep enough to make it a true World Championship for both genders.
Thank you for your consideration. We intend for this petition to represent our support for the Ironman organization and our wish to participate in the process of developing the rules that insure safe, competitive, and fair competition for all.
We support 6x Ironman Triathlon World Champion Mark Allen to represent our voices in this process.
