Stand up and ask Minnesota Lawmakers to Protect Sports and Music Fans
The Issue
Whether we’re catching a Twins’ game at Target Field or concerts at the Xcel Energy Center, one thing is certain: Minnesota fans are frustrated by the ticketing industry. From enormous fees to ultra-fast sellouts, when it comes to tickets, it seems us fans always get the short end of the stick. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel: Minnesota legislators are considering legislation to end the worst abuses of the ticketing industry.
Here’s how:
Honesty in Ticket Sales: Many times artists, producers, promoters, venues, and ticket companies hold back as much as 90% of tickets for VIPs, fan club members, and premium credit card holders, dramatically reducing the number of tickets available to the public. The pending bill requires venues to be honest with us about the number of tickets available. Every fan deserves to know how many tickets are on sale, especially for events at publicly funded venues where sell-outs are common.
For too long, the ticketing industry has worked against the people it is supposed to serve: the fans. Legislation to preserve a fair and honest marketplace for tickets in Minnesota has been introduced, but Ticketmaster and industry insiders oppose this legislation. Write to Governor Dayton and members of the Minnesota House and Senate to ask them to stand with fans, not with the ticket industry.
