Stand Up Against the Dangerous Eco-Effects of the Shutdown

For the first time in 17 years, the United States government has shutdown—and our environment is facing the consequences.

While polluters keep polluting, EPA staffers are unable to work, and clean air and water programs are in danger. Even the EPA's recent proposal to limit carbon pollution from new power plants—which would be America's first-ever national limits on climate pollution—could face unknown delays. Don't let our world suffer the consequences of the government shutdown. Tell Congress to get the government back to work.

Letter to
U.S. House of Representatives
I am writing today to ask you to end the government shutdown. Its environmental consequences are egregious--while national parks and forests are closed to visitors, they remain open to oil, gas, and mining operations. In the meantime, the EPA has its hands tied. Clean air and clean water programs are on hold, and even the EPA's groundbreaking New Source Pollution Standards could face unknown delays. I find this entirely unacceptable. We have the right to protection from dirty air and dangerous pollution. We need the EPA back at full functionality. Please, end this shutdown immediately. We need our government back at work.
