The statement provided by CU Boulder’s Ethnic Studies department has no mention of Israeli victims in the massacre that occurred on October 7, 2023. There is no mention nor denouncement of Hamas and its terrorist acts towards the Jewish people. The denial of Israel and its sovereignty is an antisemitic rhetoric that pulls historically inaccurate information as well as immense propaganda perpetrated by organizations like Hamas. This rhetoric endangers Jewish and Israeli students at the university as it perpetrates antisemitism. The use of the term “genocide” is subjective. The clear historical bias and prejudice towards Israel and its history is inherently antisemitic as this statement purposely negates that this conflict is double sided and perpetrated by Hamas and Israel respectively. 

Failing to mention historical context, wars, as well as the current political situation perpetrated by Hamas is a disservice and disregard to Jewish students at CU Boulder. 

To categorize Palestinians as indigenous peoples but not Jewish people as indigenous is a prime example of the inaccuracy this statement provides. Palestinians are Arab people that arrived to the land during the Arabization of the Middle East and Northern Africa. The Jewish people have lived in that land before the colonization of the land by Arab people.
