Mayor Craig Jepson SHUT DOWN efforts to say a karakia to start the Kaipara District Councils first council meeting. 

MĀORI CULTURAL EXPRESSION is GUARANTEED under the Treaty of Waitangi. 

Local Government are REQUIRED to uphold Treaty of Waitangi principles in their spaces and decision-making. 

BANNING KARAKIA is a BREACH of the Treaty of Waitangi.

BANNING KARAKIA is RACIST.

MĀORI are the INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND and WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED. 

Mayor Craig Jepson should be REMOVED FROM OFFICE. Mayor Craig Jepson should STAND DOWN. 

Māori CANNOT and SHOULD NOT accept RACISM DISGUISED AS DEMOCRACY from a MAYOR. 

The Mayor “stands by his decision to ban karakia”. MĀORI STAND BY OUR RIGHT TO BE MĀORI.

Aotearoa New Zealand is an ethnically diverse country with many religions – or not - and we extend a warm welcome and much aroha to you all. However, Māori SHOULD NOT be considered alongside these many different ethnicities and religions celebrated in Aotearoa New Zealand. 

Why? 

Because MĀORI are INDIGENOUS to this land. MĀORI are the TANGATA WHENUA of AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND.
