This isn’t just about TikTok; it’s about the government controlling what we can know and learn.

 

Why This Matters

 

Our Generation Stands for Freedom: Generation Y/Z refuses to accept a future where our rights to free speech and access to information are restricted. We are the most informed, connected generation in history, and we won't let that be taken away.

 

Censorship Hurts Progress: By limiting what we can see on TikTok and other platforms, the government is creating a bubble of ignorance, restricting our ability to grow, question, and innovate.

 

It's About Trust: The government claimed the TikTok ban was about “data protection,” but instead, it’s about control. We have the right to decide for ourselves what information to believe, not have it filtered for us.

 

Global Learning and Connection:

TikTok has opened doors to real-world education that textbooks and traditional media never could. On TikTok, we learn about other cultures, see unfiltered news, and hear stories from people living in countries we've only read about. Recently, platforms like RedNote allowed us to see that China isn’t what propaganda has portrayed, exposing the manipulation we've been subjected to. Taking that away is a deliberate attempt to control knowledge and shield themselves from accountability.

 

The Impact on Global Aid and Awareness:

TikTok connects people in a way no other platform does. From helping people in crisis to raising funds for global issues, TikTok fosters a global sense of community and empathy. Censorship could cut us off from these crucial opportunities to make a difference and to be the difference.

 

The Right to Choose:

The government is treating us like children, deciding what we can and cannot learn, but we are capable of thinking critically. It is our right to decide what to believe, not theirs. Shielding us from the rest of the world is a direct violation of our rights as free individuals.

 

Mental Health and Community Impact:

The sudden ban of TikTok left countless people devastated, even triggering 911 calls from those who felt the loss of their community, creative outlet, or business. TikTok has given us a space to express ourselves, to heal, and to grow. Removing that is not just censorship—it’s an attack on our well-being.

Our Demand

 

We demand the government:

 

1. Reverse the TikTok Ban: Allow full, unrestricted access to TikTok for all U.S. users.

 

 

2. Ensure Transparency: Publicly disclose the real reasons behind censorship and restrictions.

 

 

3. Protect Digital Rights: Enact laws ensuring no further bans or censorship of platforms without clear, proven threats to national security.

 

4. Does Not Have Any Ownership Of TikTok: The government should not own any portion of TikTok as it has not since it was created. It has posed no threat to Americans.

If the government fails to listen and continues its censorship efforts, we, the people, will take further action. We are prepared to file a lawsuit against the government to protect our rights to access information, express ourselves freely, and connect with the world. This is not just a petition; it’s a stand for justice.
