Evil flourishes when good people stay silent and do nothing! As Christians and compassionate Canadians, we have a moral duty to speak out against the horrific violence and mass killing happening in Nigeria. More than ever, our voices are needed to bring about change and protect the lives of those who are persecuted daily for their faith. 

Nigeria has become one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a Christian, or non radical Muslim.

Thousands of believers are murdered each year simply because they choose to follow their faith. In fact, according to Open Doors' World Watch List, Nigeria ranks among the top three countries in the world where Christians face the most severe persecution. The international community has turned a deaf ear to these atrocities for too long, acknowledging them only in fleeting news stories, while the situation worsens by the day.

The Government of Canada can do more to help stop these crimes against humanity. We propose a specific and impactful action: Canada should suspend its bilateral aid to Nigeria until the Nigerian government takes concrete steps to stop these killings. Currently, Canada provides significant financial support to Nigeria, which is intended to promote development and stability. However, as long as such grave human rights violations occur, and the Nigerian government fails to protect its Christian communities or hold perpetrators accountable, it is inappropriate to continue providing aid without conditions.

Suspending aid to Nigeria would send a powerful message that Canada stands for human rights and religious freedom. It would urge the Nigerian government to prioritize the safety and security of all its citizens, particularly those most vulnerable to religious persecution.

We urge you to join us in this righteous cause. Stand with us as we call on the Canadian government to act now and help put an end to the senseless slaughter of Christians in Nigeria. Let's ensure that aid is contingent on concrete action towards protecting Christian communities and others who might be attract for their beliefs. We believe that together, we can drive the change needed to protect innocent lives and uphold our shared values of justice and compassion.
