Stand Against Putin's Censorship: Request to Apple to Unblock VPN Apps in Russia
The Issue
On July 8, 2024, the NotVPN app was removed from the Russian App Store at the request of Roskomnadzor.

Apple indicated that this decision was made at the request of Roskomnadzor (the Russian information supervision agency).
The Russian authorities are blocking all popular foreign media and independent Russian sources. Among the hundreds of thousands of blocked resources are platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
Some of the VPN services blocked this year remained accessible to Russian users despite years of attempts by Russian authorities to block their operation using DPI (Deep Packet Inspection).
VPN services are the only way for people in Russia to access independent information.
Thus, Apple's actions help Putin and his regime restrict millions of people in Russia from accessing free information.
Despite statements about leaving the Russian market, Apple continues to collect payments in the Russian App Store. Moreover, in January 2024, Apple paid a fine of approximately $13.4 million to the Russian budget, which is a significant contribution to the country's budget, much of which is spent on the war with Ukraine.
We consider Apple's actions, driven by fear of losing the Russian market, to be immoral and even criminal.
We urge members of the US Congress to pay attention to Apple's open support of Putin's censorship.
We demand that Apple stop assisting Putin and his regime in suppressing freedom of speech in Russia and restore access to NotVPN in the Russian App Store.
