Stand Against Data Center New Hill, NC

The Issue

Our family recently moved to the tranquil and peaceful New Hill in North Carolina, a place we lovingly call our little piece of heaven. Like many others in our community, we cherish the quiet ambiance and the unique charm of being just a bit further from town. However, this serenity is under threat from a proposed data center construction project.

The planned data center poses significant environmental and community concerns. It is set to draw nearly 25% of its power from the Sharron Harris Nuclear Plant, a substantial consumption that raises concerns about resource allocation and energy sustainability. Moreover, the facility plans to operate 80 backup diesel generators. Not only will these generators contribute to noise pollution in our once peaceful area, but they will also be tested weekly, potentially leading to continuous diesel pollution that could harm our health and local environment.

Furthermore, the proposed buildings stand at an alarming 70 feet tall, starkly contrasting the surrounding area where structures typically max out at 25 to 35 feet. This discordant height threatens to disrupt the visual harmony and natural landscape that Jordan Pointe residents treasure.

The heart of our community’s spirit lies in its serenity, natural beauty, and the well-being of its residents. By allowing this data center to proceed, we risk irreversibly altering the character and quality of life that current families enjoy and that attracted us here in the first place.

We urge the local authorities and developers to reconsider this plan and explore alternative sites that do not infringe upon peaceful residential areas. There must be a considerate balance between technological advancement and environmental and community well-being.

Please join us in this crucial stand to protect our homes, our health, and our environment by signing the petition. Together, we can convey a powerful message that our little piece of heaven is worth preserving.
