Stand Against Brutality: Boycott Ready-Made Garments From Bangladesh to Support Students
The Issue
Dear Global Citizens and Retailers,
We, the undersigned, are writing to express our grave concern and horror at the ongoing atrocities being committed against students in Bangladesh. The current student movement has been met with brutal and unfair responses, including firing upon peaceful protesters, and the chilling reality of thousands of innocent students being murdered and their bodies discarded as anonymous persons. Not only that they killed 32 child those are below 10 years.
### The Issues at Hand:
1. **Unfair Firing and Violence:** Peaceful student protests are being met with violent crackdowns, with law enforcement and other entities using excessive force, including live ammunition, to silence dissent.
2. **Brutal Murders and Disappearances:** Reports indicate that thousands of students have been killed, with their bodies often dumped and labeled as anonymous. These heinous acts are not only violations of human rights but also an affront to human dignity and justice.
3. **Suppression of Fundamental Rights:** The right to peaceful assembly and protest is being systematically suppressed. Students and activists live in constant fear of retribution for exercising their fundamental rights.
4.**xcessive Use of Force.** Law enforcement agencies and the Bangladesh Student League have employed excessive force against peaceful student protesters. Reports indicate that 180 (REF: CBS NEWS) people have been killed, with the youngest being 9 years old. Furthermore, countless people have been wounded in these clashes.
5.**Arbitrary Detention and Persecution.**There is a pervasive fear of arbitrary detention, persecution, and worse among students, who are protesting the reinstatement of a quota system that reserves more than half of coveted government jobs for various groups. The quota system is widely seen as discriminatory and has led to increased frustration among the youth.
6.**Lack of Accountability.** Acts of violence and human rights abuses committed by state actors often go unpunished, contributing to a culture of impunity. Enforced disappearances, kidnapping, and killing have been a common practice of the Awami League Government over the last 16 years. The international community must hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Our Request:
In light of these gross human rights violations, we call upon global retailers and consumers to take a stand against the injustices in Bangladesh. Specifically, we urge retailers to cease purchasing ready-made garments from Bangladesh until the following conditions are met:
1. **End to Violence Against Students:** The Bangladeshi government must immediately halt all forms of violence against peaceful protesters and ensure the safety and protection of its students.
2. **Justice for Victims:** There must be a thorough and transparent investigation into the murders and disappearances of students, with those responsible held accountable.
3. **Protection of Rights:** The fundamental rights of students and all citizens, including the right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression, must be respected and protected.
Why This Matters:
The ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh is a significant part of the global fashion supply chain. By refusing to purchase garments from Bangladesh, retailers and consumers can send a powerful message that the "world will not tolerate such egregious human rights abuses". And finally RMG industry will push hard to Bangladesh Govt to resolve the issue.
How You Can Help:
**Sign this petition:** Add your voice to demand that global retailers boycott ready-made garments from Bangladesh until the above conditions are met.
**Spread the word:** Share this petition with your friends, family, and social networks to raise awareness and amplify our call for justice.
**Make informed choices:** Support brands and retailers that prioritize ethical sourcing and human rights.
Conclusion:
Together, we can make a difference. By standing in solidarity with the students of Bangladesh, we can help bring an end to the violence and ensure that justice is served. Thank you for your support and commitment to this vital cause.
