Rebuild Main Street Bridge for Vehicular & Pedestrian

Rebuild Main Street Bridge for Vehicular & Pedestrian

The Issue

We residents and business owners of the Westside strongly support our appeal to rebuild and restore the Main Street Bridge ( affectionately called the Purple Bridge) to it's original state that would accommodate pedestrians and vehicular traffic, while preserving the historical value. Repairing and restoring this bridge will:

Increase response time for emergency vehicles.

Improve economic vitality of businesses (such as Pellicci's, Soul Tasty & the Jamaican Market-Restaurant) allowing vehicular travelers to meander down Main Street across the bridge into enclaves rich in cultural and ethnic distinctions.

Open access to downtown Stamford, rather than abruptly close off Westside vehicular traffic to Main Street and vice- versa.

Facilitate a compromise with the non-profit, Mill River Collaborative to accept the suspension of vehicular traffic at designated times.

We, the undersigned do not support the fast track (bid-waiver) with numerous ambiguities, lack of candid communication to stakeholders (Historical Restoration Society, Citizens, etc.)and ask the Stamford Board of Representatives to VOTE against and resolve the bridge for benefit to all.

If this bridge is not saved for both modes of transportation the spirit and heart of the Westside will remain the red- headed step- child who is hidden when company comes. Let us stand together to preserve our home, our town!
