Remembering Stacy – The Woman Behind Stacy’s Law
Stacy’s Law carries the name of a real woman, and it is important that people signing this petition know who Stacy was, not simply what happened to her.
Stacy Louise Hunter was born on 14 September 1990. She was a daughter, sister, auntie, friend and, above everything else, a devoted mum to Lucie, Erin, Willow and Ellis.
Those who loved Stacy describe her as nurturing, kind, gentle, welcoming, strong-willed, honest and fiercely protective of the people she loved. Her children were at the centre of her world.
She loved nature, gardening, travelling, swimming and being outdoors. She became passionate about cold-water swimming, loved the sunshine and the sea, enjoyed cooking and growing her own food, and was famous for feeding everyone who came through her door. There was always room for another person around Stacy’s table — and usually far too much food.
Caring for others also ran through her working life. Stacy worked in care and, most recently, supported vulnerable and troubled young people. She had an ability to gain their trust and wanted to make a difference to people who needed kindness and support.
She was also funny, individual and unapologetically herself. She had her own style, her own opinions and strong morals. She could be incredibly organised — yet somehow was nearly always late. These are the little things her family and friends remember, because Stacy was so much more than the circumstances of her death.
Her funeral was filled with stories of holidays, family days, horse-riding disasters, gardening, cold-water swimming, her children, her kindness and the laughter she brought to people's lives. Her family described her home as the place where she finally felt content and safe.
That last word matters.
Safe.
Stacy should have been able to feel safe.
Her death has left four children without their mum, parents without their daughter, a brother without his sister, and a family, friends and community facing a loss that can never be undone.
That is why this petition bears her name.
Stacy’s Law is about making her name stand for change. We are asking Scotland to strengthen protection for people at high risk of domestic abuse, including the appropriate use of GPS electronic monitoring, exclusion zones, specialist risk assessment and rapid responses to breaches.
We cannot change what happened to Stacy.
But we can make sure Scotland remembers who she was  and use her name to fight for a system where, when serious risk has already been identified, protecting the victim becomes the priority.
Stacy Louise Hunter was more than a headline. She was a mum. A daughter. A sister. A friend. A whole person with a whole life ahead of her.
This is Stacy’s Law. This is her legacy. And we want that legacy to help save lives.
