According to the most recent data from Florida TaxWatch, St. Lucie County has the HIGHEST property tax rate in the state of Florida, out of 67 counties. With a millage rate of 22.8369, this was 32% higher than the state average. Our elected officials have failed to address this problem, and every citizen is affected!

Veterans and seniors are being forced out of their homes. Rental rates are skyrocketing as landlords pass the cost of higher taxes on to their tenants. Prospective home buyers are choosing other communities. Mortgage payments are significantly higher than what was envisioned when buyers purchased their homes.

Locally, the city of Port St. Lucie has been rolling back their portion of the millage to offset rising values for years without drastic cuts in services, but the St. Lucie County Commissioners have failed to keep up.

St. Lucie County government has more money than ever before.  With this petition, we ask the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners to reduce the millage rate by a minimum 1/4 of a mille (roughly $5 million) for 4 consecutive years. If you believe our highest in the state tax rate is unacceptable and it's time to return some of that money to us- the residents- sign our petition to demand real tax reform now.
