St. John's University Students Call for "Get Starbucks off Campus!" Movement
The Issue
As members of the community at St. John's University, we are deeply disturbed by the recent actions of Starbucks Corporation. Despite the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza by the zionist regime, a fact that has been widely reported and condemned internationally, Starbucks has chosen to double down on their support for this entity. More than this, they have publicly condemned the union group Starbucks Workers United for their support of Palestinian Liberation.
This is not just a political issue; it is personal to us Arabs, non-Arabs, and Muslims and Jewish alike who all believe in human rights and justice. The condemnation of a union group and invalidation of the Palestinian Liberation Movement by Starbucks is an affront to our values as individuals and as a community. We cannot stand idly by while such injustices occur. We must take action against corporations that choose profit over people, especially when those people are fighting for their basic human rights.
Therefore, we call upon all students, faculty members, staff and visitors at St. John’s University to boycott Starbucks until they retract their statement condemning Starbucks Workers United’s support for Palestinian Liberation and cease their backing of oppressive regimes.
By signing this petition you are taking a stand against corporate complicity in human rights abuses and sending a clear message that we will not financially support such corporations on our campus or elsewhere.
