Edit: Please share, we reached 1000 but of course, every signature means a lot. The more we have, the better our case becomes.

The recent closure of St. John's means that students will not be returning to in-person classes this semester. Now, we need the grading policies to be changed to pass/fail or to at least be more lenient, taking into consideration difficulties some students are facing at home/off-campus. Please continue to share this petition; when we reach 1000, a formal letter accompanied with these signatures will be sent to administration/the university.

Again: This isn't about individualism, it is about acknowledging the unforeseen circumstances that your peers may be experiencing right now. Put simply, the playing field is unequal right now. Due to the nature of higher education, it always will be... but right now, the discrepancy between high and low-income* students' experiences is bigger than ever. Some St. John's students are facing difficulties that you may not be able to imagine. If you're in a comfortable and privileged-enough position to say "I don't need pass/fail", why not sign the petition to help out less fortunate students who are part of our community?

*Not just income, though. Just using economic/financial background as an example.

Personal Update: SJU is kicking resident students off of campus without the possibility to appeal... insensitive and inconsiderate towards those who may have no alternative. Just as bad as what Harvard University and other academic institutions have done to their students, leaving them with limited options and near nowhere to go.
