The landings roundabout in St Helens (colloquially known as the YMCA roundabout) has always been subject to many debates, arguments and horn honking. I have seen many a near miss on this roundabout and have been involved in a few myself.

Drivers approaching the roundabout from King Street are presented with two lanes, the right hand lane being marked "A571", along with a road sign showing the A571 at approximately 10:30 on the roundabout.

The confusion arises as SOME drivers think the left hand lane is for any turning before the 12 o'clock position, rather than following the road signs & markings.

This leaves drivers correctly taking up the right hand lane, being cut up by drivers in the left hand lane as they pass the exit for North Road. 

The road markings need to be made clearer, so that the drivers taking up the left hand lane know that they will have to exit at or before North Road.
