Keep St Croix Industries a County run program

Keep St Croix Industries a County run program

The Issue

**Please only sign this petition if you are from St Croix County WI.

We the undersigned, want St Croix Industries to continue to supply the services needed by thier clients (This is the wording on the paper petition).

St Croix Industries is directed under the Department of St Croix Health and Human Services. St Croix Industries provides work services, community placement services and also Day services to St Croix County Disabled Adults. With the services from St Croix Industries clients are able to Work, Learn Life Skills, Inclusion in the community, Independence, Socialization, Safety, Self Worth and earn a paycheck to be a productive citizen to the best of thier abilities. This is not a State Mandated service. St Croix County has been providing continuous service for 39+ years. St Croix Industries has been funded mainly by the State of Wisconsin, Federal Government, and job contracts that they bring in. St Croix Industries has not received any county levy dollars since 2008. Due to State budget cuts, St Croix Health and Human Services Board on May 6, 2013 voted to recommend a Resolution to the St Croix County Board that the County administrator take all necessary steps to transition St Croix Industries to a private provider. The Resolution to privatize St Croix Industries went to the St Croix County Board meeting on June 4, 2013 and was stalled on the floor and was postponed until the August 6, 2013 Board meeting. This was postponed because most St Croix County Board supervisors wanted to learn more information on this. We want St Croix Industries to remain a County responsibility to have some County level control of what is going on with our disabled adults. Privatization we would loose all control over what is happening to our disabled adults. We would have no oversight or influence over the programs needed by our most vulnerable individuals in our population. Will they provide transportation? Will they have inclusion in the community? Some adults are not able to talk or comprehend what is being told to them to be able to tell someone what is happening to them. Clients also have a very hard time with change, and right now a lot are worried about loosing thier jobs. We also worry that if someone isn't productive enough that a non-profit or private company would no longer employ them. What would happen if the non-profit or private organization fail. Then what would the County do? We want to make sure every St Croix County Adult has services available through the County, not through a private or non-profit agency. Please sign the petition if you want to keep St Croix Industries to continue to supply the services needed by thier clients through the County. We also have a facebook page for more information: Friends Of St Croix Industries.
