With COVID-19 infiltrating our county and state and our entire nation, St. Clair Community College has been shut down and made to online classes only. Though this seemed like a quick fix to the problem of not being able to attend in-person classes, it created many more problems. A lot of students at SC4 take in-person classes for a reason, which is typically because students who took these classes need an instructor in front of them to interact with during a class. Obviously, you can't do this in an online class, and not all instructors are taking advantage of an online meeting like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Another reason students take in-person classes is because they don't have reliable internet at their home or a place to be able to focus on their schooling. By making this semester pass/fail, this would take a lot of stress off of studenst who are in the situation of the abrupt switch to an online class, when they did not sign up for one. This would solve a lot of issues of students not being able to get the instructor help they need, and would take a layer of stress off of the students in need. A pass/fail semester would be extremely helpful to our students at SC4, and considering the circumstances of COVID-19, this would help immensely. Thank you.
