We, the undersigned, call on the University of St Andrews to declare a climate emergency.

We are at a crossroads in history. If we don’t take radical action and make immediate changes to our behaviour, the world as we know it could be lost forever. The prospect of mass environmental damage is fast approaching, and time is running out. What happens in the next months and years will determine what the future of humankind will look like. Our collective extinction is a possible outcome.

Politicians all over the world are ignoring the emergency, but we have decided that we cannot wait any longer. Students have come together across the globe because we are united by our common goal of ensuring that we look after our planet. 

The Scottish and UK governments have already declared a climate emergency, and many universities across the UK are taking significant steps to promote environmental sustainability. 

We call on the University of St Andrews to immediately declare a climate emergency. To support this declaration the University must take significant and immediate action to become carbon-neutral and to enact sustainable environmental policies.
