Animals on fur farms suffer immensely, including from raw, bleeding paws as a result of living on wire-mesh cage floors, injuries, including open, infected wounds and some animals die as a result of harsh conditions. When killed the animals are horrifically gassed to death or electrocuted until they have heart attacks. Those animals taken from the wild in leg-hold traps don't have it much better, with these crude devices often resulting in bone fractures. Both practices are unlawful in the United Kingdom. 

Animal fur, including fox tails, badger and rabbit pelts, was on sale at the St Albans Magna Carta which took place on land owned by St Albans City & District Council. However, this is not an isolated incident. Evidence collected by Hertfordshire Animal Rights shows raccoon and rabbit fur garments being sold during the Autumn / Winter 2014/5 season in St Albans Market, also owned by The Council.

We - the undersigned - call for St Albans City & District Council to adopt a policy which prohibits the sale of animal fur on municipal land within the district and at council-operated events.
