Mr. Walters is a long term substitute for Mrs. Farmers chemistry class. Mrs. Farmer was a great teacher but she is now on extended maternity leave. We have had a series of substitute teachers to fill her spot- some being great and some bad downright unhelpful, rude and terrible. Mr. Walters, unfortunately, is one of them and he is to stay with us for the rest of this school year. Why is this bad? There are several reasons.

-He is not a good teacher. He is bad at teaching us concepts, and we are behind all other Chemistry classes, In fact, the CLASS AVERAGE for the RECENT QUIZ WAS A SHOCKING 60%! Clearly, we are not learning the concepts. We need someone who can teach us. He has problems with submitting our grades because, as he said, "The drug-smoking morons at Schoolloop don't know how to do their job." Also, he gives us pop quizzes without giving us even a glimpse of the material. He grades in-class assignments for correction, not for completion, as well as with homework. That isn't how it works. He also expects us to be completely independant and study at home. Students are complaining that they are failing. I have a C- in this class, and I'm doing better than most.

-He always goes off topic. Mr. Walters seems to have a great resentment for the children he previously used to teach at Mountain View High School. He talks about how "ratchet, ghetto and dumb" and "unwilling to learn" the children were there. He randomly speaks to us in German or French, most of us do not understand him at all.

-He is disrespectful and not a good role model, and sometimes makes people in the class feel uncomfortable. He calls out students that are failing in class-in front of everyone else. He will also refer to us as "my little ones". This is a rather strange term of endearment, not to be used with high school students. He individually will call a girl "little girl". It is a rather strange and it sure makes the students feel uncomfortable. Once, we were talking about chemical equations, and he used baking cookies as an example. He asked if any GIRLS in the class knew how to bake. That's some gender stereotyping right there.  Once, he used the term "ni***". This is completely inappropriate. Even though it was out of context, It is downright rude and racist. Not okay for a classroom environment. Also, Mr. Walters drinks tea everyday. Out of a PLASTIC BEAKER. We were once doing an experiment in class with various chemicals. He told us "Don't worry about wearing goggles, just be careful."

As you can see, Mr. Walters is not an ideal teacher. Not only are the students not learning the material within the California curriculum for chemistry, but he constantly goes off topic and is disrespectful towards his students and extremely irresponsible.
