

Sri Lanka Telecome: Give fair usage for OLD SLT Unlimited package users
The Issue
Internet is become a day to day part of over life.And in Sri lanka our major internet provider Sri lanka Telecome one and only ADSL provider is deceptioning their old SLT customers and adding FUP to their users. Currently their having a monopoly of ADSL.And the main thing is they dont even inform the customers about the circumstance. without the permision of TRC ,SLT is adding FUP to their OLD Unlimited Home packages.Acording to the officials of the TRC all the unlimited connections will be added FUP.
SLT is going against the TRC rules.according to TRC
"The customers who have been already subscribed to unlimited broadband tariff plans have to be continued. The operator will not be permitted to apply FUP on existing unlimited broadband packages."
After several years SLT started to offer new improved packages with high speeds (8Mbps), data caps & low monthly rentals. Regardless these features some of us who were satisfied with the current package stayed on. But since 2010 SLT has taken actions to make our internet experience quite annoying by throttling our connections. They monitored our connections for a couple of months then slowed our connections if we pass a threshold data amount. Since last October SLT has admitted to throttling the existing unlimited users if they pass the 40GB to speeds of an age old dial up connection, 64kbps. I had to find out about this through making numerous calls to the SLT hotline at 1212. Someone even with the least technical knowledge can understand however is that SLT has no right to throttle our connections without any prior notice. Even though they offer the services they don't have the right to play the fool with our internet connection as they wish.
So basicaly we need good quality service which SLT currently lacking of and beneficial brandwith. We are the first customers of SLT ADSL and we want a better service from you. Early years you have advertised on media the home packages are UNLIMITED packages. You never mentioned about FUP(fair User Policy). And we were singed only for unlimited home package. In that user policy they never mentioned about the FUP.Without giving a notice to the customers SLT has added FUP to their Home package users. Its a violation of customers rights.So if SLT are going to add FUP on the Unlimited Home package users they have to consider about the belove requests
• Minimum of 100GB Brandwidth usage with 2Mbps line
• Clear User policy and they have to publish it on media eg: news paper
• Make a anouncement In media about the FUP and apologise from the OLD SLT home package users.
