Sri Lanka's World T20 winning captain Lasith Malinga last played an International match on 06th September 2017. returned to International cricket on 17th February after a 19-month break in which he underwent two knee surgeries.

Lasith's ODI bowling figures were not great as he picked only 10 wickets in 13 ODIs, but the reason's for his omission were beyond boundary lines when he hit back at then sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara for criticizing players' fitness after CT17 and revealing unspoken areas about SLC during the brain storming session by the Sports Ministry to Revamp Sri Lanka Cricket on 15th September 2017.
