Include vegan option in Life is Strange: Episode 2

The Issue

Life is Strange: Episode 2 contains a scene where the player must choose on behalf of the protagonist, Maxine Caulfield, to order one of two dishes while sitting at a diner. The only choices presented are "Bacon omelette" and "Belgian waffle". The developers at Dontnod Entertainment have marginalized vegans by creating this scene, which forces players to choose a dish that almost certainly contains animal ingredients. Instead of merely letting the protagonist choose on her own, the creators of Life is Strange have forced players to co-opt the protagonist's choice just to be able to proceed.

Life is Strange takes place in a modern day American setting and does not show the animals used to make the dishes before placing the order. We are therefore given no reason whatsoever to assume that farm animals within that setting are treated any less horrendously than farm animals in reality. Furthermore, if the player inspects the menu at Maxine's table, it is revealed that the diner serves items such as oatmeal and hash browns. This proves that animal-free dishes were in fact available to Maxine at that diner, if only the game had allowed her to make the right choice.

In a game such as this that focuses on choices and the moral consequences of those choices, players should not be forced to make the IMMORAL choice just to be able to continue playing a game which they had already paid for. We call on the people at Dontnod Entertainment to please release a patch that rewrites the diner scene, so that a vegan-friendly choice is included, or, at the very least, make it so that Maxine orders the dish on her own without having to force the player to go along with it.
