Square-Enix: Bring the Kingdom Hearts franchise to the Wii U

The Issue

Many long-time fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise find it frustratingly unfathomable that Square-Enix would deliberately overlook the Wii U in regards to its next big installment: Kingdom Hearts III. What is more upsetting is that they do so, despite how many installments of the Kingdom Hearts franchise have been released on Nintendo products - despite having originated on a Sony platform.

To "justify" this omission: Hardware capabilities between the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U are merely speculated upon by amateur, self-ordained specialists in order to discriminate fans of Nintendo. The end result is relentless debating between fanatical followers of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft; The latter trying to bar Nintendo fans from the future of the Kingdom Hearts experience. This is a mentality that is completely unlike the whimsy and civility the franchise itself is supposed to inspire.

This is not a matter of catering to the demands of fans of the franchise, for many could care less. This is a matter of what is fair for the consumer. For Square-Enix to deliberately favor one piece of hardware over the other will only serve to frustrate and alienate fans, and considering what the company has decided to invest in this past year: That is the absolute last thing they want to do.

What this petition is requesting is simple: The Kingdom Hearts franchise should be accessible to all on their platform of choice. The next generation of console gaming will hardly be friendly to anyone, let alone any family, who must adhere to a strict budget. The blatant disregard of such circumstances already demonstrated by certain titans in the industry will only serve to frustrate fans and alienate them further.

The Kingdom Hearts franchise itself was designed to entice the imagination and cause the player to invest themselves into the story so intimately. To leave an entire demographic of fans behind and coerce them into investing hundreds of dollars just to experience one title is in no small way a fool's errand. This segregation among fans and consumers alike has gone on for several generations of gaming and must come to an end; Sooner, rather than later.
