Overturn Council Bill No. 2006-113 Breed Specific Legislation aka Pit Bull Ban
The Issue
Pit Bulls or dogs mistakenly identified as Pit Bulls are currently being euthanized strictly because of their breed or assumed breed. I say "assumed to be a Pit Bull" because it is visual characteristics of animal that is used to determine whether the animal is a Pit Bull or not, and unfortunately multiple dog breeds have similar physical characteristics to Pit Bulls.
The Springfield Animal Control currently works to place animals in their custody in shelters or rescues unless they are a Pit Bull, assumed to be a Pit Bull or Pit Bull Mix. An assumed Pit Bull is kept for 7 days and if not claimed by its owners it is put to death.
Due to misinformation and media fueled fear, Pit Bulls have been targeted as a vicious monsters. We are a civilized society living in the age of information and there is absolutely no reason to condem innocent animals to death simply because they were born a Pit Bull or born looking like a Pit Bull.
