Getting Proper Credits In The Music Industry

Getting Proper Credits In The Music Industry

For too long, the music industry has allowed improper and incorrect credits. Digital credits have lagged far behind the times, but we’re in a position to fix that. With all the glitz and glamor surrounding today’s music industry, it’s easy to forget where we came from and who really makes the magic happen.
There are two groups that are responsible: record labels and streaming services. Record labels should make sure that every person involved is credited properly from writing, to producing, to engineering an album or song. The same goes for streaming services, since they get paid by advertisers based on their number of followers and likes on social media platforms. No artist, musician, engineer, songwriter, or producer should have to fight to get what is rightfully theirs. From streaming platforms to liner notes, the credits on musical projects are often incorrect and inadequate. It's imperative that we have credits that are both correct and accurate.
Proper credits allow us to not only attract new projects, but gain credibility in the eyes of music industry professionals. We must hold record labels and streaming platforms accountable for not properly doing their job, as they are the ones who have the power to make this change. Thousands of people are demanding that we hold ALL companies accountable-- record labels, streaming platforms, download stores, social media, and on-demand services. We believe that everyone deserves the credit for the work they do. Our mission is to make sure everyone who adds value to the creative process gets credited. We must have proper and correct credits on all musical projects. It’s time that we join forces with each other and start a movement against these companies until they commit to actionable changes which include proper crediting.
As we're all aware, it often takes one voice to change things and make sure everyone gets what they deserve. This is why we need your name on this petition. We want a future that values music equally and fairly, no matter where you listen to it. Let’s work together to bring the right recognition to the music industry and the people who make it.
