I am writing to advocate for the construction of a skatepark in Abuja, As a resident of Abuja for over 10 years, I and others with an interest in skating have struggled to find a place in the area where we can enjoy our sport. While the city has done a good job of providing spaces for other outdoor activities, it has not provided a needed space for young people to skate. In fact, the activity is policed regularly in our area so that young people cannot skate/skateboard/bmx without worry of breaking city rules and laws.

Skating/skateboarding/bmx are not traditional sports supported by schools or clubs in the area. A skatepark would provide young people with a safe place to do what they enjoy doing. Further, because of the lack of spaces to skate state-wide, a skatepark could be a potential revenue stream for tourism. As many skatepark enthusiasts travel between states to visit new, impressive parks.
