Sports Broadcasting Companies: Stop airing ads promoting violent video games and movies to kids
Common Sense Media is calling for a moratorium on the airing of ads promoting violent video games and movies during NBA, NFL, and NCAA games viewed by millions of children. In letters to the commissioners of the NBA and the NFL, and the presidents of the nation’s leading sports broadcasting companies, we strongly urge the most influential media organizations in this country to stand against ads that perpetuate the culture of violence in America today. As the nation reflects on the tragedy in Newtown, and while Washington considers new legislation calling for more research into the effects of violent video games on children, now is the time for ESPN, Turner Sports, FOX Sports, CBS Sports and NBC Sports to demonstrate their respect for families and young fans by taking violent ads off the air.
