Hyderabad is considered as the hub for badminton, having produced champions such as the present chief badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, Vijayraghavan and current stalwarts  like Saina Nehwal, Gutta Jwala, Guru Sai Dutt and Sai Praneeth to name a few. Significantly, all the players were products of the Sports Authority of India facility in Hyderabad and underwent training under the watchful eyes of SAI coaches Mohd. Arif, Bhaskar Babu and others.

However, the following years, the centre remained inactive due to various reasons. But thanks to SAI’s initiative, the centre was rejuvenated following the posting of Sri Bhaskar Babu as SAI coach in 2011 and shifting of the centre to a world class indoor stadium at Saroornagar. This being the only facility for both the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, budding players from far off places such as Vizianagaram, Guntur, Vijayawada in A.P and Warangal, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Khammam and other districts in Telangana are presently undergoing training at the SAI facility. Over the last three years, the Centre has produced quality players thanks to dedicated efforts of Sri Bhaskar Babu and the SAI, Saroornagar Centre officials. Many of the players are on the verge of making it big in the circuit in the ensuing years. While everything was falling in place and many players from the districts evincing keen interest to join the SAI centre, the proposal to wind up the Centre has come as a bolt from the blue to these budding players who cannot bear the expensive training fee collected by some reputed academies in the country. Taking this into consideration and also keeping the results achieved by players of the SAI centre at Saroornagar, it is earnestly requested to continue the SAI facility at Saroornagar.
