Shiloh Point Elementary PTA makes change to PTO
The Issue
Dear PTA Members:
The Shiloh Point Elementary School's PTA Executive Board and Principal Hershey have voted to pursue dissolving the existing PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and becoming a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). The Shiloh Point Elementary School PTA is currently governed by the National and Georgia PTA rules. Our PTA is accountable to these organizations for the funds entrusted to us by the parents of Shiloh Point. However, it has come to our attention that the state organization, Georgia PTA, has not been performing due diligence with regard to the local PTA's financial status. Further, in our opinion, the National PTA is not holding the Georgia PTA accountable for their actions. The controversies that have occurred at the state level are garnering a tremendous amount of media attention. This could potentially affect our ability to welcome new members and retain existing ones.
Creating a PTO will allow 100% of the funds raised to remain at Shiloh Point and be used strictly for SPES and its needs.
Please consider signing this petition to dissolve the current PTA. Use the address of our school, 8145 Majors Road. Cumming, GA 30041. This is the first step in breaking our ties with Georgia PTA and keeping all our funds here at Shiloh Point.
Derrick Hershey,
Principal, Shiloh Point Elementary School
